The sole reason for the failure and debacle of communist party is this. (It is the case of the almost all parties in India. Some as sham and some as real contenders). 

They stood for their ideology (and vested interest) than for the country, its people and culture. 

They stood for the labor class (party workers), than for the people and their country. 

They stood for the rights of the labor class (at least in India), than for teaching the labor class about their duty and responsibilities and love for nation. 

They never stood for the country or love for the country they wanted to rule and experiment their ideology. Their want was for ruling a country to serve and grow their party and prove their ideology’s relevance and righteousness in India too. 

More than looking for a solution for the country, they were (all equally) looking for solutions for their party. A right timing for their party to come as a saviour. A play field for the party to play its game as per the teaching and coaching it got. 

They wanted a country to experiment their ideology, than an ideology suiting to the country and for serving the country they love. 

Their love for the party and its ideology was much stronger than their love for the country, its culture and history. 

They were more proud of their party and its ideology than their country. They, from their soul, were not loving the country they wanted to rule. More they loved their party and its ideology. 

They never considered love for the country as a big subject at all, and they never taught their party workers (labour class) the love for the nation (as a big subject. Here in this lacuna the presently ruling party (BJP) came in (though foolishly, wrongly and befoolingly). 

Hence they never taught the labour class the culture and history of the country they are in and they did not want them to be proud of that. Rather they wanted them to be proud of their ideology. 

For most of the parties in India, sick mother (India) is and was not that important and issue. Their doctor (party and its ideology) and giving their doctor a job and a patient (country) to prove and save his ideas (and party) was more important. 

Almost all the parties, (including the communist party) were not looking for treatment or for an ideology that matches and suits to the sick mother (country and) its culture (her body and its health). 

Rather they all were equally using that sick mother as a great pretext for them to come as big doctors.
