Mahe (Mayyazhi).

Dear all Mahians…,

Mahe Paalam and Mahe (Mayyazhi).

It is part of India, as well as of France.

It is part of Pondicherry as well as of Kerala.

It is in the sea, but with the river Mahe.

It is in the water, but on the shores.

It keeps ever two worlds for the people of Mahe,

On both sides of the river Mahe,

As Akkare and Ikkare…,

To both sides giving the same chance

To address each other.

Naturally, historically and culturally

Mahe Paalam and Mahe

Has got lots of distinguishing features.

It is the place from where, with its great French influence,

The great existential thoughts emerged and influenced

All literary and thinking world and process of Kerala

From late 1960s onwards, through early 1970-s and 1980-s.

Tagore park, a great land mark and attraction there,

Connecting Mahe-ians to the Arabian Sea of no barriers and boundaries,

And letting them think free beyond boundaries of nations and religions,

Letting them also to merge both their soul and body to make both the same.

Might have witnessed much of hot discussions and thinking processes,

Around and about the existentialism and other literary issues

Helping to develop great thinking and analyzing habits of Mahe-ians.

Mahe Palam is a bridge not only in physical sense,

But also in its spiritual practical sense and effect.

It is the very central point to many aspects of life.

It is not only the place where one river merges with Arabian Sea,

From which might have Mahe (as Maha Azhi – Mayyazhi) got its name,

But also is a very beautiful place, where

Two main northern districts of Kerala join together to be one

And two states of Kerala and Pondicherry merge to be one,

Culturally, linguistically and geographically.

It is also the bridge helping a different kind of river

Flowing into Kerala to energize and refine Kerlaites

(Tellicherians and New-Mahians especially)

Enabling them to forget their sorrows and problems behind

Cutting short all their veils.

Mahe palam and Mahe (Mayyazhi) is beautiful geographically

With the presence of both river and sea beside it,

Making it to be like a dreaming child in the lap or cradle

Created and set by both river and sea.

It causes the presence of two states in one.

It is the place where harmony between the communities

Becomes the rhythm, rule and flow of life

Able to make its great festival

The festival of Church of Saint Theresa (Kaneesa Perunnaal)

Mahe Palam and Mahe (Mayyazhi reflects and represents

Two different versions of great Dravidian cultures

Bf Pondicherry and Kerala in one place.

It is an oasis of harmony and life within the desert.

An Oasis reflecting all the features and remnants

Of great Indian and French cultures.
