Let me lay out the prediction for how this World Cup will go from here — and how it should go — mixing desire and probability together.
With a clear understanding, though, that desire is one thing and probability is another.
Desire is entirely imaginary — indeed, it’s a dream that goes beyond limits.
Probability, however, is grounded in reality — it’s more or less what one should expect.
With the clarity that desire and probability may not even be related to each other at all — even so, let me say it anyway…
Quarter Final:
Morocco – France
(Last time’s semifinal has come around as this time’s quarter final) —
Morocco must win (also a Moroccan reply of sorts to the defeat of last time’s semifinal).
Belgium – Spain:
Belgium will win (not because Spain has no chance, but still…)
England – Norway:
England will surely win.
Argentina – Colombia:
Colombia must win. (Colombia does have a good chance too).
(If Argentina is to make it through, then this very night, something improbable must happen — they must lose to Egypt.)
Semifinal:
Morocco – Belgium:
Morocco must win.
England – Colombia: England must win.
Final:
Morocco – England.
I won’t say who will win the final.
But Morocco must win.
(Even though England — who for the first time since 1966 have a real chance of winning the Cup — are the more likely ones.)
