The Leader
Forgave, they say.
Forgave whom?
The children.
To say even that,
without shame.
A man who has, without pause,
committed only grave mistakes—
mistakes an entire nation
could never forgive—
grants his land and its people
this strange act of forgiveness.
Those who have done nothing
but pile up wrongs
now forgive
those who did no wrong.
A new-age
new method.
A new drama.
Applause
from among their own ranks.
The blind devotees
who understand nothing—
what else can they do?
Even hollow words,
solemnly delivered
over fifteen days,
get applause.
Hollow things
float like this.
To shed crocodile tears
also takes fifteen days…
And that too,
crocodile tears
shed while “forgiving”
a small child…
Has an old man
sunk this low?
Then again,
he and his circle
are not forgiving at all—
they are lying in wait
for another opportunity.
Lying in wait
for another chance.
“Forgiving”—
this hollow word
is just the new name
given to lying in wait for a chance.
New words
spoken while setting a trap,
waiting to pin something
on someone, someday.
That he is ignorant
is one thing—
but he has now proven
he is shameless too.
This is the state of those
who have made
only deceit and cruelty
their path and their creed.
What a terrible state.
The state of those so degraded
they’d think a banyan tree
sprouting from their own backside
gives shade.
Those who understand nothing,
who drink urine
believing it holy water,
find in that very degradation
divinity and grace.
